Dear Friends of Bleecker Street Opera,

We, John and Irene, have decided to abandon our efforts to continue Bleecker Street Opera, at least for now.

Bleecker Street Opera was established to extend the legacy of the Amato Opera, with the initial blessing of Sally and Tony. As you know, two years ago our theater on the Bowery was sold, and the building has since been lifeless. We sought other nearby venues for performance, and for two seasons presented fine productions which garnered favorable reviews and enthusiastic audience response.

Then, in early June of this year, Irene and I were forced to leave our residence on City Island, which had been purchased and run jointly by the Amato family. This home had been the headquarters of the Amato Opera for over forty years, and was the cradle of the Bleecker Street Opera. Despite the encouragement and support of many people, we must say farewell to our City Island home by the end of September. Irene, her father, and I are heading to Vermont, where we have found a second home.

We would like to extend our appreciation and best wishes to all the dedicated artists who worked with us, and offer whatever help and resources we can to enable them to continue their artistic endeavors.

Finally, we want to express our deepest appreciation to you for your support of Bleecker Street Opera.

Sincerely,

John G Kim, Project Coordinator
